Industrial hemp has been used for thousands of years to make rope, paper, textiles, medicine, insulation and oil.  This sometimes controversial plant has undergone a revival and it is now even used to build houses.  This resource from Science Learning Centres was designed with the engineering GCSE in mind but also covers many areas of the curriculum including biology, chemistry, and how science works.
